State-owned investment firm Solidium should be dissolved and policy-makers granted more authority in matters pertaining to the state's shareholdings, believes Paavo Arhinmäki (Left Alliance), the Minister of Culture and Sport. Arhinmäki is particularly vexed about the acquisition of Finnish steel-maker Rautaruukki by Sweden's SSAB, which was announced earlier this week. Under the terms of the acquisition, three quarters of the votes in the new company will be held by SSAB shareholders.

Arhinmäki would dissolve Solidium
“Our experiences from corporate acquisitions with Swedes are bad. Hopefully, this will work out better, although virtually all the votes are transferred to Stockholm,” says Arhinmäki.
