Lake Bodom murder suspect released from custody
Gustafsson not giving interviews
Nils Gustafsson, the man suspected in the murder of three teenagers in the infamous Bodom Lake killings of 1960, was released from custody on Friday after spending 60 days behind bars.
Espoo District Court refused to extend Gustafsson’s remand; he was not considered a flight risk, nor did the court see any danger that he might tamper with evidence. In spite of the release, he remains under suspicion of the killings committed during a camping trip
The court also ordered the 62-year-old man not to leave the community during the ongoing investigation.
Gustafsson’s lawyer Riitta Leppiniemi said that her client was relieved to be out of jail. She also said that he was refusing all requests for interviews, and asked reporters to respect his privacy.
Police in Espoo have been ordered to guard the privacy of Gustafsson, his family, and his neighbours.
