Kiteen Pallo delivered in the Finnish-rules baseball - or pesäpallo as it is known in Finnish - playoffs what was expected of them throughout the summer. The team won the championship by a comfortable margin.
Kitee's opponent in the best-of-five final, Jymy from Nurmo, had their chance only in the first game. After that they had to face the music orchestrated by Kitee. In the third match, Kitee won both periods, by 4-0 and 2-0.
A fine home crowd of 5,117 made sure the atmosphere was nothing short of magnificent.
"There is no better place than this to play pesäpallo", enthused Pasi Pirinen, the architect of Kitee's victory. Pirinen scored three of Kitee's six runs, and delivered one.
Kitee's previous championship victories came in 1999 and 2000.
