Russia expert Johan Bäckman lashes out at Finnish MP Heidi Hautala (Green) and the Finnish media in a new book, accusing them of inciting hatred against Russia and President Vladimir Putin.
In his newly published book Saatana saapuu Helsinkiin ("Satan Arrives in Helsinki"), Bäckman claims that the murder of Russian journalist Anna Politkovskaya was used to this end.

Hautala says that she does not intend to take legal action over the book. Instead, she said that she prefers to allow the book’s cover, content, and style to speak for itself.
The cover of the book depicts Hautala, drooling blood, holding a voodoo doll representing the murdered journalist Anna Politkovskaya in her hand. The head of President Putin is on the body of the latest James Bond star Daniel Craig.
"I expect that people will recognise that this is a smear campaign, which is not directed just at me, but at many others", Hautala said in an interview with the Finnish News Agency STT.

In his book, Bäckman accuses Hautala of using Politkovskaya’s murder to promote her own Parliamentary election campaign. Hautala and many others are also accused of inciting anti-Russian and anti-Putin sentiment in Finland.
"It is sad that it defames the memory of Anna Politkovskaya, and hurts the feelings of the thousands of people who very strongly felt that it symbolised what is happening in Russia", Hautala said.
