The national women’s organisation of the Green League Party Vihreät Naiset (“Green Women”) is considering filing a report of an offence against True Finns city councillor-to-be Jussi Halla-aho over of his Internet blog writings.
The organisation is pondering filing the criminal report with regard to Halla-aho’s blog entry from December 20th, 2006, in which he talks about immigrants and rapes.
Halla-aho, who was elected to the Helsinki City Council as an independent running on the True Finns ticket in the October municipal elections, wrote in his blog:
“The number of rapes will increase in any case. Therefore, as more and more women will undoubtedly get raped, I sincerely hope that at least the right women, the green-leftist reformers and their voters, will find themselves in the clutches of the rapists, who randomly select their victims. Rather them than anyone else. With people like that nothing else works, except when their own multiculturalist views turn against them.”
The filing of the report of an offence was first reported by the Vihreä lanka (“Green Thread”) party paper.
In his online guestbook Halla-aho also stated that he would be happy if a gang of immigrants raped the former Green League MP Rosa Meriläinen. The comment was later removed from the blog.
Through email Helsingin Sanomat managed to reach Jussi Halla-aho, who is currently on holiday.
“Mentioning private individuals in this kind of context is not smart and I therefore removed the blog comment. Personally, in principle, I still feel the same way”, Halla-aho said on Thursday.
“This is a question of writings from two and a half years ago that the Greens have been aware of the whole time”, Halla-aho added. “The fact that this is being brought up now, after my success in the municipal election, speaks volumes of the Green Women’s real motives.”
The Green Women also insist that the True Finns chairman Timo Soini take a clearer stand with regard to what the party’s individual members say in its name.
In Soini’s view this is none of his business.
“I disapprove of the fact that I am always asked to explain the sayings of an individual councillor, especially when he is not a member of the party”, Soini said on Thursday.
Halla-aho scored a major victory in the municipal elections, campaigning on a platform that sought to expose failings in Finland's immigration policies and the way immigrants are integrated into Finnish society.
