Police in the Helsinki district of Malmi are investigating a case involving the possession and distribution of thousands of child-porn images.
The police have found something like 12,000 images and also videos on a computer belonging to a Helsinki man in his fifties, according to a report from the regional news desk of the Finnish Broadcasting Company (YLE) on Tuesday.
According to Insp. Pekka Seppälä, the local police department received a request from the National Bureau of Investigation, Finland's central criminal police arm, and the NBI had in turn got a tip-off from police in Germany.

Seppälä reported that the man in question is believed to have downloaded the images to his PC from peer-to-peer networking sites. At the same time the man is suspected of distributing the pictures further to other net users.
The police officer said that some of the images are extremely graphic, and the scale of the material has meant that the investigation has taken some time.
A raid was carried out on the man's home already in the spring, and two computers were confiscated for examination.
The preliminary investigation into the case is now approaching completion, and the documents will shortly pass to the prosecutor's office for consideration of charges.
