Police in Finland have discovered over 86,000 child pornography images and 243 video clips of a similar nature on the computer and CD-ROM disks of a 30-year-old man in the rural municipality of Juuka in Eastern Finland.
The man has admitted to having collected the material since 1996.
"The man said his motive was his fascination with naked children", inspector Antti Arponen says.
The man has said he collected the images and video clips for his own personal use. The police have no evidence that he would have shared the material with anyone else.
The man is single and does not work with children.
The case was uncovered when the German police contacted the police in Finland with suspicions that the man was downloading images from foreign child pornography web sites.
In the July house search the Nurmes Police confiscated several computers and numerous CD-ROM disks from the man’s home.
When interrogated, the man has admitted having downloaded child pornography from foreign Internet pages. Some of the images he said he downloaded from the family albums in various Internet picture galleries.
The police have completed their preliminary investigations into the matter, and the case is now under consideration of formal charges. The suspected crime is possession of sexually immoral images of children.
