Although we are not publishing an edition on Friday or over the weekend, the pages will be updated as and when new information is made available concerning the fate of the more than 250 Finnish citizens still missing as a result of the earthquake and tsunami that struck the coastline of countries bordering the Indian Ocean last Sunday.
According to the current grim predictions, in addition to being a catastrophe on a biblical scale, the huge waves that struck Indonesia, Sri Lanka, India, and - in the Finnish case - the beaches of Southern Thailand, are likely to have brought about the largest single loss of life experienced in this country in peacetime in at least a century.

Our thoughts naturally go out to those who have lost loved ones, and to those who are currently living in fear of the worst, and we exhort readers to consider making a donation to any of the several aid organisations who are currently attempting to provide relief for the many tens of thousands more who have suffered, losing relatives, home, and livelihood, in the countries affected.
Details of bank accounts and telephone pay-lines are given in the story from Thursday linked below.
