The advance voting for the current municipal elections appeared to start a final surge on Monday.
A total of 183,652 voters cast their absentee ballots in the course of Monday. The number was over 17,000 more than on the respective day in the previous municipal elections.
The total number of votes amounted to over 710,000 by early Monday evening, equalling 17.4% of the eligible voters. Traditionally, the last two days of advance voting are the most active.
Absentee voting will end today, on Tuesday. Formal voting in Finland's municipal elections will be held on Sunday 24th October.

In the 2000 municipal elections, a total of 843,909 persons, or 37.7% of all voters, cast their ballots in advance. The final voting turnout four years ago was 55.9%.
