Ahtisaari expects Russian veto of Kosovo plan

Ahtisaari expects Russian veto of Kosovo plan
 print this
Former Finnish President Martti Ahtisaari believes that Russia will use its veto in the United Nations on the issue of independence for Kosovo. The move would prevent the passage of an independence plan promoted by Ahtisaari in the UN.
The former President was speaking on Tuesday in a 70th birthday interview on a current affairs television programme on the public service broadcaster YLE.
Ahtisaari nevertheless expects Kosovo to become independent this year - possibly with the support of the United States and some EU countries.
