Lapsia ja aikuisia ("Children and Adults"), the first feature film by Finnish director Aleksi Salmenperä, has been named the Finnish nominee for the Oscar in the best foreign film category at the Academy Awards.
The film tells a contemporary story about urban young adults in Helsinki. The main character is a psychiatrist at a fertility clinic, whose own thoughts on having children cause strains in her relationship with her partner.
Of the various foreign entries, five films will be chosen as final nominees for the Oscar, which is to be handed out in February next year.
Lapsia ja aikuisia gets its premiere today, Friday. It is also scheduled for release in foreign cinemas this autumn.
Global distribution rights for the film have been bought by the Celluloid Dreams company, which has signed cinema distribution contracts for the United States, Canada, Belgium, and The Netherlands, among others.
Negotiations are also underway for distribution in Germany, France, and Japan.
