Amin Asikainen, 32, reported on Monday night’s MTV3 television channel Tulosruutu sports newscast that he would continue his career as a professional boxer.
The former European Boxing Union (EBU) middleweight (72.6 kg) champion lost his title to German Khoren Gevor in the November title bout through a technical knock-out.
“For two weeks [after the bout] I thought about the issue. My training motivation is high”, Asikainen said.
Coach Pekka Mäki regarded weight-loss as a partial reason for Asikainen’s defeat by Gevor.
“My normal weight is on the high side, so changing to a different weight category is one possibility. But I still have good chances in the middleweight class as well”, Asikainen said.
Asikainen, who turned professional in 2001, has won 25 of his pro fights and lost two.
