Rap artist Amoc, who performs his music in the Inari Sámi language, has been named as Finland’s Young European of 2007.
The selection criteria stressed Amoc’s ability to combine the identity of a European indigenous people to a global popular culture.
Previous holders of the Young European of the Year title include the Don Johnson Big Band singer Tommy Lindgren and the female boxer Eva Wahlström.
The Young European of the Year is appointed annually by the Eurooppanuoret association, a youth organisation for the European Movement in Finland. Wednesday was Europe Day throughout the European Union.
