Antti Jokinen directs Lordi video for Eurovision
At the beginning of the televised finals of the 2007 Eurovision Song Contest, viewers will see a video directed by Antti Jokinen, a Finn who has pursued a successful career in the music video business in the United States (see attached article).
In fact the video comes closer to being a short film built around the winning band from the 2006 competition, Lordi. It has been shot in Lapland, and Jokinen says the piece combines the Lappish motif with aspects of the Finnish national epic Kalevala and monsters, as befits the monster-rock band who brought home the spoils from Athens in such spectacular fashion last year.
The music will be by Lordi and will also feature material specially composed for the video. The film will also star Finnish actor Jasper Pääkkönen and is produced by Solar Films.
Meanwhile, the countdown continues to the moment when Finland hosts the Song Contest for the first time. The staging arrangements at the Helsinki Arena are already well advanced and even a little ahead of schedule.
The main shape of the stage set is taken from a gigantic fish-jaw, and the surrounding walls will be covered in part with reflecting "scales". In front of the main stage there will be a catwalk used by the comperes and others, though not by the performing artists themselves.
The Eurovision Song Contest semi-final will be held on May 10th, and the Final, watched by an estimated 100 million television viewers around Europe, will be on May 12th.
