The third nuclear reactor at the Olkiluoto plant in Eura on Finland's west coast (Finland's fifth nuclear reactor) will be ready to begin regular production of electricity only in August 2014.
Operators Teollisuuden Voima (TVO) made an announcement to this effect early on Wednesday afternoon.
The Areva-Siemens consortium responsible for the construction of the 1,600 MW EPR (European Pressurized Water Reactor) has reported the new timetable to TVO.
The previous estimate was that the reactor would go online at the end of 2013.
Olkiluoto III has been dogged by delays, cost overruns, legal wrangles, and problems on the site, and the date of its completion has been put back on several occasions.
Initially the plant was to have been ready for handover and startup back in 2009.
The decision to build a fifth nuclear reactor was taken by Parliament as long ago as May 2002.
