Around 400 march in Helsinki against Israeli military action
According to police estimates, around 300-400 people took part in a peaceful demonstration in the Finnish capital on Monday, protesting the actions of the Israeli Defence Forces in Southern Lebanon. Police reported that the march went off without trouble.
The demonstration was arranged by the Pysäyttäkää sota (Stop the War) coalition of various political groupings. The coalition has stated its intention to arrange demonstrations starting from the downtown Kiasma Museum of Contemporary Art each Monday at 5 p.m. for as long as Israel continues its military activity in Lebanon.
This was the third such demonstration since Israel responded to an incursion on July 12th by the militant group Hizbullah, which is still holding two Israeli soldiers captive.
