The Finnish aviation authority Finavia, which operates most of Finland's airports, has given its approval to the travel company Wingo to start passenger services between Helsinki and Pori as of Wednesday.
The move comes hot on the heels of an announcement by Finncomm Airlines that it would cancel its flights to Pori and Seinäjoki.
Wingo indicated interest in taking over the routes soon after Finncomm’s announcement. However, Finavia had been withholding its authorisation until Wingo pays airport fees that it owes.
According to Reijo Tasanen, head of business operations activities at Finavia, says that Wingo has paid the airport fees for Helsinki and Pori two weeks in advance.
Wingo and Finavia have also agreed on a payment schedule for EUR 100,000 that Wingo owes in back fees.
Wingo does not have any planes of its own - its flights are operated by the Polish airline Jet Air.
