Social Democratic Party chairman, Speaker of Parliament Paavo Lipponen announced on Wednesday morning that he would give up the leadership of the party this summer.
Lipponen said in Helsinki that he would remain in the party leadership until the next SDP Congress, which will be held in Jyväskylä on June 9th.
In his remarks to party leaders, Lipponen did not give any reasons for his decision. He also did not give any opinions on whom he would like to see as his successor.
We will have more about Lipponen’s decision and its political implications in Thursday’s edition.
