Björk attends Helsinki premiere of new Moomin film
Icelandic singer Björk is a long-standing fan of the Moomintroll books, and she reads them to her own children.
During a visit to Helsinki on Monday, she said that the world created by Finnish author Tove Jansson has many of the same elements as those of the Swedish children’s author Astrid Lindgren.
“They have the same kind of freedom and rebellion against limitations placed by society. Each one of the Moomin characters is of equal value, and they are allowed to be as eccentric as they like”, Björk says.
The Icelandic superstar was in Helsinki to attend the premiere of the animated 3-D feature film Moomins and the Comet Chase, for which she wrote the theme music.
Before coming to Helsinki, she spent time in the Pellinge archipelago, where Tove Jansson spent many of her summers.
“In the archipelago, the sea was nearby and nature was bleak, much in the same way that it is in Iceland. It is easy to identify with”, Björk said.
