Bus and lorry strike postponed past winter holidays of Southern Finland
A threatened strike by bus and lorry drivers has been postponed by over a week. National Conciliator Esa Lonka asked the ministry of Employment and the Economy to order a postponement of the strike, which was originally to have started on Sunday.
Under the new schedule, the strike would begin on Tuesday, March 2nd, if no settlement is reached before that.
Mediation in the dispute continued on Thursday, with both sides far apart from each other.
If the strike takes effect, it would stop goods transport, including that of waste.
Also affected would be the largest long-distance bus companies, as well as about half of the bus services of the Helsinki region.
The postponement of the strike means that buses still will be running next week, when schoolchildren in the southern part of Finland have their winter holiday.
