A record number of visitors have stayed in the various hostels in Helsinki this autumn. Currently, Hostel Erottajanpuisto in Uudenmaankatu has no beds vacant, and even the biggest youth hostel in Finland, Eurohostel in Katajanokka with its 255 beds, is fully booked, even though it is already October.
However, a phone call confirms that there are some beds available in the 9 to 12 bedded rooms of the Stadium Hostel after all.
Low budget accommodation in downtown Helsinki is as hard to find in October as it was during the busiest weeks of the summer. Then again, it has often been said that Helsinki is well-equipped with hotel beds, but only at the executive upper end of the market, where new hotels seem to be emerging all the time. .

A record number of tourists have stayed in Helsinki this autumn, and the hostels had more bookings at the beginning of September than during the entire summer.
According to Helsinki Expert’s Hotel Booking, all hotels and hostels were practically fully booked during the entire month of September, as there were several exhibitions and other events in Helsinki.
A record number of almost 31,000 tourists visited the Helsinki City Tourist Bureau in September, equalling 5% more than at the same time last year.

The cold did not frighten off the guests, because they were prepared. After all, they had learned from the web pages of the Finnish Tourist Board that the winter in Finland lasts for six months, but the cold weather is not unpleasant, as the continental climate is practically a paradise for those used to humid winters.

A group of young Londoners put on their quilted coats and knitted caps before going out. They intend to tour the Nordic countries on an Inter Rail ticket for two weeks. From Helsinki they will head for Northern Finland, Sweden, and Norway.
Catherine Castlecline and Lucy Morris did not find the drab weather so bad, but finding a local inexpensive restaurant was impossible, and finally they had to go to a local hamburger outlet.
While most of the tourist attractions in Helsinki are available only in the summer, some tourists are content with riding on a tram or just watching hockey.
