Campaign encourages primary school pupils to engage in physical activities during breaks
The ground shook when the teachers and pupils of Helsinki’s Eläintarha primary school gathered in the schoolyard on Thursday morning in an attempt to set a world record of physical activities during the breaks between lessons.
The action called Maa tärisee ("The Ground Shakes") was part of a campaign by the Young Finland Association, encouraging schoolchildren to engage in physical activities for at least two hours a day.
In order to break last year’s record of 104,800 pupils, as many primary school pupils as possible across Finland were to get moving at the same time.
Today it is time to celebrate, as a new record was set on Thursday.
The number of pupils engaged in physical activities at the same time was 147,482, in a total of 1,159 Finnish schools.
