Charges for middle-aged Finnish man over unresolved Espoo killing from 1987
Murder has no statute of limitations, and an unsolved case from the late 1980s naturally remains on the books.
Now, however, a result could be closer as legal proceedings over the brutal killing of a female finance manager in Espoo 21 years ago will start in two weeks.
The prosecutor has decided to file murder charges against a 42-year-old man, who has been suspected of the same crime even previously.
The finance manager is believed to have died as a victim of a robbery and murder in December 1987. The 42-year-old woman was working overtime on the premises of a stone processing company in Espoo’s Muurala at the moment when the office was broken into.
According to police, the suspect has sometimes admitted and sometimes denied committing the crime in question.
The National Bureau of Investigation, Finland's central criminal police arm, has re-examined the homicide by going through old evidence.
