Commemorative stamp has Ahtisaari’s face wrong way around
Former President gets Nobel Peace Prize Wednesday
A postage stamp issued to mark the granting of the Nobel Peace Prize to former Finnish President Martti Ahtisaari displays the ex-President’s face the wrong way.
The late-edition tabloid newspaper Iltalehti noticed that in the picture, Ahtisaari’s hair is parted on the right side of his head, and not the left, as it is in real life.
However, this was apparently not a mistake.
“The stamp was produced with a mirror image. It was important for Ahtisaari to look forward, into the future. This decision was the most appropriate from the point of view of layout”, says Antti Raudaskoski, who designed the stamp, in an interview with Iltalehti.
The stamp will be issued in Finland on Wednesday, the day that Ahtisaari receives the Nobel Peace Prize in Oslo.
