Consumer prices down by 0.5 per cent in December
Last month, consumer prices came down by 0.5 per cent compared to a year earlier, a Statistics Finland monthly report reveals.
According to Statistics Finland, “in December, consumer prices were brought down most from the year before by reductions in interest rates.”
“Decreases in food prices and telephone call charges also brought inflation down. By contrast, consumer prices were pushed up most by increases in the price of fuels, retail prices of alcoholic beverages, prices of restaurant and café services, risen rents and tobacco".
The month of November saw an even greater year-on-year decline in consumer prices, namely 0.9 per cent.
The slowing down of the decrease in consumer prices is explained by the higher fuel prices when set against December 2008.
