In Thursday's edition we reported that the American writer Stephenie Meyer had been the best-selling author in Finland in 2009, with her vampire-related stories selling more copies than anyone else.
Meyer was indeed an exceptional sales-comet, but it turns out her title was premature, as the homegrown Mauri Kunnas's sundry animals (mostly dogs, but cats and a sleepwalking goat named Mr. Clutterbuck also figure in his illustrated works for children) came out on top after all. Helsingin Sanomat had at its disposal some sales figures that listed only the sales of seven of Kunnas's books.
In reality the prolific Mr. Kunnas had no fewer than 71 titles on sale last year, and the accumulated sales of all these came to 342,000 copies.
Hence Meyer's 220,000 grand total (from a mere handful of books) puts her only into a very creditable second place.
