Court of Appeal stops eviction of bottling company Nord Water

Court of Appeal stops eviction of bottling company Nord Water
 print this
The Helsinki Court of Appeal has decided to halt the eviction of the water bottling company Nord Water, which bottles Helsinki tap water to the Middle East market in premises in Pitkäkoski leased from Helsinki Water.

The decision is valid until the Court of Appeal has issued its final judgment of the eviction itself.
The disagreement between Nord Water and Helsinki Water is related to the terms of the tenancy agreement and back rents owed by the tenant.
Helsinki Water sought confirmation to the cancellation of the tenancy agreement from over a year ago in the Helsinki District Court in February.

The District Court decided the case in favour of Helsinki Water, whereupon Nord Water took the case to the Court of Appeal.
In practice, the water bottling company has continued its normal operations in the same premises regardless of the ruling of the District Court, according to which Nord Water was ordered to move out immediately under pain of eviction.

According to Nord Water Managing Director Tuomas Perttula, the company has received enquiries relating to the matter.
”From our point of view, the decision made by the Helsinki Court of Appeal was significant”, he comments.

”At this stage, such a decision could be expected”, notes Helsinki Water Managing Director Jukka Piekkari.
Nord Water was founded in 2004, and in 2006 the City of Helsinki sold the company to the Saudi Arabian Al Faddaghi & Partners.
The company's main market is in Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.
