Crafty diesel thieves benefit from defective fuel pump in Eastern Finland
 |
Several tens of thousands of litres of diesel were stolen from a Teboil filling station in the centre of the eastern city of Iisalmi last year in the course of approximately six months.
Suspicions of a crime arose after a defect was spotted in the automatic fuel dispenser that enabled the use of several nozzles upon the opening of one valve.
At the beginning, the thefts were insignificant, only getting more audacious towards the end of the year.
It is likely that some thieves pumped fuel into large containers, as the listing of the data system of the automatic dispenser revealed that the quantities of diesel stolen at one go were considerably larger than regular fuellings.
”Not all occasions can have been unintentional”, says officer Jari Rytkönen from the North Savo Police Department.
The case is being investigated as an aggravated theft.
The police should be notified of all potential information and observations relating to the case by dialling 07187 55030 during office hours.
