The number of crimes related to credit card and debit card frauds recorded by the Finnish police has grown by as much as 40 per cent compared with last autumn.
The information is revealed in a report on the current crime situation published on Wednesday at a security seminar organised by the Confederation of Finnish Industries (EK).
According to EK, the losses caused by credit and debit card copying are in 2009 likely to amount to hundreds of thousands of euros - even according to conservative estimates.
The Federation notes further that the crimes related to payment cards as well as the vulnerability of information systems are the greatest security risks faced by today’s companies.
In addition to credit card and debit card abuse, even other kinds of fraud continue to target enterprises.
Examples of such crimes are invoicing frauds, money collection scams, and deceitful marketing, which are frequently professional crimes: the same criminals swindle both banks, insurance corporations, and financial institutions.
Even the number of assauts and unlawful threats has increased.
The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) - Finland’s central criminal police arm - compiles a report on the current crime situation twice a year in cooperation with Finnish industries, organisations, and authorities.
