The Croatian-made tram currently being tested in the capital by the Helsinki City Transport (HKL) has received criticism from the public with regards to its shortage of seats, the inadequacy of legroom, and the functioning of the doors. The passengers also consider the tram to be noisy.
Furthermore, the tram is too long to be suitable for use in Helsinki, HKL says. It is several metres longer than the present trams.
HKL has already conducted negotiations with other manufacturers with regard to road-testing of trams.
It is possible that HKL will acquire trams by other manufacturers for pilot trials in Helsinki in the near future.
The operator has run tests on the Croatian-built tram on lines 6 and 8 since the end of last year.
The tests relate to the purchasing of a fleet of new trams scheduled to commence this year.
