Defence forces help in search for missing boy in Pori
Twenty-seven national servicemen from the Pori Brigade have been assigned to assist the police in the search for a five-year-old boy Anton
Engholm, who has been missing for several days. Anton disappeared from the grounds of the Steiner day-care centre Sofianlehto at noon on
Friday.
The police have asked the Pori Brigade for help in looking for the missing child until Thursday.
The police have also received hundreds of tips from the public as to where to look for Anton, but so far the search has proved fruitless. Inspector Oiva Kaltiokumpu from the Pori Police Department says the searchers even go
through areas that have already been combed once.
The search concentrates on the area immediately surrounding the
day-care centre, plus the adjacent river. "It is highly unlikely that a
crime has been committed, but no possibilities have been excluded",
Kaltiokumpu explains.
The last positive sighting of Anton is from Friday at noon when he was seen at
the corner of Pohjoisranta and Luotsinmäki streets.
Anton's knitted cap was found in the River Kokemäenjoki on Friday evening.
The river runs by the day-care centre at a distance of only 50 metres.
During the weekend, dogs, divers, and sonar equipment were used in an attempt to find
the boy in the river.
Over three hundred volunteers have taken part in the search.
"For the boy's parents' sake, I hope we will start finding some answers
soon", one of the volunteers comments.
