Earthquake: Foreign Ministry has no news of injuries among Finns in Chile
As of Saturday evening, Finnish time, the Ministry for Foreign Affairs did not have any information on whether or not any of the approximately 200 Finnish citizens living in Chile had been hurt in the massive earthquake that hit the country on Saturday.
According to the Foreign Ministry, about half of them had been reached by Saturday evening.
There are also a number of Finnish tourists in Chile, some of whom reported to the ministry either directly or through their relatives that they were all right.
Telephone and Internet connections have suffered, especially in the city of Concepción and its surroundings that were worst hit. There have also been some some problems in the capital Santiago de Chile, where the Finnish Embassy is located.
The Foreign Ministry recommended using text messages to communicate with people in Chile.
