Election funding stir is not manifested in parties’ approval ratings
 |
The approval rating of the Centre Party seems to be rising slightly, despite the recent election funding stir, which arguably affected them most directly. The moderate conservative National Coalition Party, on the other hand, saw a modest decline but continues as the country’s largest party by a clear margin, according to a survey commissioned by the Finnish Broadcasting Company’s newscast YLE News and conducted by Taloustutkimus.
The Centre Party’s support rose 0.2 percentage points from June to 19.7 per cent. The National Coalition Party’s popularity, in turn, decreased by 0.3 percentage points to 22.2 per cent, while the opposition Social Democrats experienced a marginal slippage in approval by 0.1 percentage points to 19.3 per cent.
Backing for the right wing populist True Finns Party has fallen by a percentage point since the Euro election fever, when the party collected a seat in Strasbourg.
Nevertheless, all the changes are well within the margin of error of 1.9 percentage points, which indicates that support for the parties has remained more or less the same during the quiet holiday month.
A total of 1,930 people took part in the July survey.
