Eurobarometer suggests most Finns are against Turkey's EU membership
The planned EU membership of Turkey fails to excite the Finnish people according to a new survey: 66 percent of them object to the prospect of Turkey's joining in the Union.
According to the Eurobarometer survey published on Monday, the Finns believe that the EU has a positive effect on promoting world peace. 72 percent of the Finns believe the Union's role is beneficial.
Nearly as many - 69 percent - consider the role of the United States as negative, the opinion poll commissioned by the European Commission reveals.
According to the survey, the Finns do not have confidence in the European Union, however. Fifty-three percent of the respondents said they do not trust the Union. The percentage of those more willing to rely on the EU was 41.
For the Eurobarometer survey, about 1,000 respondents are interviewed in each one of the EU member states.
