The search continues for Karoliina Kestiä, a 15-year-old Tampere girl who has been missing for nearly three weeks.
The search has extended to areas of the west of Tampere, and nearby forest areas. Much of the effort is concentrated on an area where her motor scooter was found. The vehicle had apparently been involved in a collision.
Police and volunteers have been searching in an area pinpointed by a mobile telephone operator as being where Kestilä’s telephone had been before its battery ran out.
Police say that the most likely scenario is that the girl started driving home on her scooter in a state of intoxication, got lost, had a collision, and started to wander in the forest for an unknown reason. Her black and white Nokia 3120 Classic mobile phone is still missing.
“Finding it would give an answer to the question of whether or not the phone has been with the girl, or not, and how far. The location of the phone would also give us information”, says Detective Chief Inspector Hannu Kallioniemi.
“Logically, a person who is lost would seek out a road or a place where they could get help, but in the investigation we are also taking into consideration that she might not necessarily have done this.”
A number of theories have been circulating about the possible course of events, but Kallioniemi insists that the police have the best overall picture of the matter.
Police nevertheless would like any information about observations about the movements of a scooter on Nokiantie in the west of Tampere on the night of July 31st.
Police would also like to know more about a car that was parked on the Nokia motorway.
