FACTFILE: A EUR 4.00 experience at a tenth of the price or less
There are currently 36 public conveniences in Helsinki. Twenty of them are superloos of French design, and 15 are Swedish. One is the public toilet in Sofiankatu, which has a pay booth.
The public conveniences cost the City of Helsinki a total of around EUR 820,000 annually. Admission charges bring in around EUR 35,000. Persons in need of a seated experience must pay EUR 0.40, while the pissoir side has free access.
Around 200,000 people a year make use of the services of public conveniences in the city. Thus one visit costs the City of Helsinki around four euros.
