FACTFILE: Canary Islands still favourite tourist destination

 print this
The Canary Islands remain a favourite for holiday travel by Finns: a quarter of a million package tours were booked to the islands last year.
Gran Canaria and Teneriffe remain the top draws, but increasing numbers are choosing Lanzarote and Fuerteventura, and some independent travellers have explored the smaller islands such as La Gomera and La Palma.

The popularity of Thailand is growing rapidly.
Hotels are easily booked solid, and backpackers can have difficulties in finding accommodation at short notice.
A similar boom was previously experienced by Bulgaria, where growth has now evened out.

Finnish tour operators now have their eyes on new destinations.
Sun Tours has discovered places such as Panama and Montenegro, and Finnmatkat has seen an increase in the popularity of Venezuela and Mauritius.
