Dr. Juhani Suomi, 62, is a historical researcher and a diplomat, who has worked for the Ministry for Foreign Affairs since 1973. He is specialised in Finland's relations with the East.
Suomi's doctoral thesis was on the background of the Winter War. His main work has been the biography of Urho Kekkonen, whose eight parts appeared between 1986 and 2000.
Suomi edited Kekkonen's diaries for publication. The last part of the four-part series appeared in 2004.
President Martti Ahtisaari granted him the official title of Professor in 1997.
