FACTFILE: Origins in 19th century

 print this
The roots of the Finnish-Russian School go back to the Tabulov Elementary School, which was set up in the 19th century, and maintained by the Orthodox congregation.
The Tabulov School, and the Helsinki Russian Lyceum, which was set up in 1930, were merged in 1955 to form the Finnish-Russian School.
Matriculation examinations have been available at the school since the 1960s.
Responsibility for the maintenance of the school shifted from the school's support association to the Finnish state in 1977.
The school has about 700 pupils, 77% of whom speak Finnish as their mother tongue.
