
FACTFILE: Protected wild feline with furry tufts on its ears
The Eurasian lynx is the only wild feline in Finland, and it is protected by law. Today the lynx can be spotted in the entire country.
The lynx has a sharp sense of hearing and keen eyesight, and its eyes are big and yellow. The animal has a short black-tipped tail and black furry tufts on its ears.
The medium-sized feline is an excellent predator, which can wander up to 20 kilomentres during one night. The lynx is mainly nocturnal, but it can also move in daylight.
A female lynx is sexually mature at the age of some two years, the male one year later. The litter size averages two to three kittens, which will be dependent on their mother until the following spring.
A wild lynx can reach an age of 17.
