The fairway to the new Vuosaari Harbour was presented to the general public on Monday.
The route that was implemented earlier this year will be one of Finland’s busiest mercantile shipping lanes, when the new harbour replaces Helsinki’s other downtown cargo port areas such as Sörnäinen and Länsisatama.

It has been estimated that in terms of export value as much as 25 per cent of the country’s total exports will be directed along the new fairway.
The 32-kilometre route starts at the Helsinki lighthouse proceeding west of Itätoukki, Eestiluoto, Kuiva-Hevonen, and Krokholmen, then between Pikku-Niinisaari and Mölandet to the new harbour.
The minimum width of the fairway is 200 metres, while the assured minimum depth is 12.5 metres.

Traffic will be in both directions except for a stretch of about 8 kilometres, which will have a meeting point for anchorage halfway.
The cost estimate for the new sea lane was EUR 11.7 million. Regular traffic will begin at the end of the current year when the harbour will go into full operation.

An Open House event including sightseeing tours to the construction site will be arranged on June 4th.
The first sightseeing bus will leave from the main gate (T-gate), Laivanrakentajantie 26, at 3:00 p.m., and the last one at 5:15 p.m.
