Two investigators from the National Bureau of Investigation (KRP, Finland’s Central Criminal Police) arrived in Moscow on Wednesday to probe into the past summer’s curious disappearance of the cargo ship, the M/S Arctic Sea.
Wednesday’s programme included discussions with the Russian examination board of the hijacking.
According to KRP Chief SuperintendentRabbe von Hertzen, the Finnish investigators will have an opportunity to interrogate the suspected hijackers on Thursday.
Von Hertzen believes the Finns may also be given a chance to hear the ship’s crew as well.
The Finns will stay in Moscow until Friday, but if needed they will be able to return there again.
In Finland the Arctic Sea episode is being looked into as a case of aggravated extortion, in Russia as a vessel hijacking.
The entire incident was surrounded at the time with speculations and rumours, and little has happened in the months since August to clarify either what took place on the vessel or what she might have been carrying - aside from a load of Finnish timber - to attract the attention of alleged pirates.
