A 3-1 defeat to Canada in the last match on Sunday left Finland's volleyball team at the bottom of their four-nation pool in this year's FIVB Volleyball World League.
The Finns ended up in fourth place behind Poland, Brazil, and Canada after the 12 games had been played, with rounds held in each of the four competing countries.
Finland beat Canada twice and Poland once, but ended up with only 7 points to Canada's 10.
The squad will now have to watch and wait until some time in July, by which time the complete results will be in from the other three pools, and with just seven points to their name it may be difficult to avoid having to go through qualification to get entry to the World League next year.
Sunday's match also brought to an end a long international career, as the Finnish captain Tuomas Sammelvuo announced he would no longer be available for international duties.
He gained his first cap in 1993, and represented Finland on no fewer than 296 occasions.
