It has been observed that in 2006 Finland’s membership payment to the European Union again exceeded the support funding the country received in return.
According to the 2006 financial report published by the European Commission on Monday, Finland paid EUR 1.5 billion as dues to the EU last year, while it got only EUR 1.28 billion back in the form of various subsidies.
In 2006, a total of 14 EU member states received more funding than they paid to the EU.
Apart from Finland, ten other states were also net payers last year. In proportion, the largest net payers were Holland, Sweden, and Germany.
The largest proportional beneficiaries were Greece, Lithuania, and Malta, all receiving appreciably more from the European Union than they paid back.
