Finland has officially recognised the independence of Kosovo.
President Tarja Halonen gave official endorsement to the government's decision to recognise Kosovo's independence and to establish diplomatic relations with the country on Friday.
No debate was involved in the decision to recognise Kosovo. President Halonen and Prime Minister Matti Vanhanen agreed on the matter already a week earlier.

Formal recognition of Kosovo's' independence was delayed by a week.
Prime Minister Vanhanen had said last week that more time was needed to satisfy the constitutional requirement of cooperation of the different branches of government in foreign policy decision-making.

Serbia announced on Friday afternoon that it would recall call its Ambassador to Finland, Vera Mavric over the move.
Serbia, which considers Kosovo a province, has previously recalled its ambassadors from other countries that have recognised Kosovo.
For instance, the Serbian Ambassador to Sweden was recalled on Tuesday soon after the country's government had recognised Kosovo.
