Last week’s two-day strike by cabin crew of the Finnish national airline Finnair cost the carrier EUR seven million in immediate losses. Estimates on the impact of losses of flight reservations are an additional EUR three million.
Finnair announced on Wednesday that its business profit this year would fall clearly below that of last year. The company is nevertheless still making a profit.
In flight services and holiday charter flights, earnings have fallen below expectations. In addition, EUR 15 million in one-off organisational expenses occurred in the second quarter.
"It is our goal to develop the structure of the concern to make it more competitive according to plans previously made public", says Finnair CEO Jukka Hienonen.
Finnair is making administrative changes, and outsourcing its real estate services. Greater efficiency is also to be sought by Finnair Technical Services.
"The economic impact of the structural change will start to show next year. Continuing the strong growth of our Asian services requires considerably better profitability than now is the case", Heinonen says.
