Somewhat unexpectedly, the Finnish National Opera's operational result for the previous year is reported to be positive. The operating surplus is approximately EUR 50,000.
At the beginning of January, the executive management of the Opera still believed that without the donation of EUR 550,000 given by an anonymous donor the Opera's financial statement would have shown a loss.
The Board of the Opera is to confirm the result today.
Earlier this month, it was announced that the former Governor of the Bank of Finland Sirkka Hämäläinen is to come in to head a new slimmed-down Board from April.
In early 2006, the National Opera reported losses of more than EUR 1.8 million, and the establishment has been in and out of the headlines ever since, more for financial or personnel reasons than on the culture pages.
