Finnish Red Cross and others appeal for donations for earthquake relief
 print this
The Finnish Red Cross resolved on Sunday night to send an immediate contribution of EUR 750,000 from its standing Catastrophe Fund to aid the victims of the tidal waves following the undersea earthquake in the Indian Ocean. There is an immediate need in the region for tents to accommodate those now without a roof over their heads, containers for maintaining supplies of drinking water, field cooking equipment, and medical supplies.
The Red Cross has also appealed for donations, with phone-in and online alternatives available.
Callers to a special number - 0600-414141 - can automatically donate EUR 20, which is then physically debited in connection with the next phone bill.
Alternatively, money can be transferred online or at bank branches to the Nordea account 221918-68000 or Osuuspankki account 578007-10011649.

Fida International, a charitable organisation run by the Finnish Pentecostal Churches, will also be sending assistance to victims of the tsunamis. FIDA is sending help via its partners in India, Indonesia, and Thailand.
FIDA has its own Catastrophe Fund, and donations can be made via Nordea account 228718-5256, using 5555 as the reference code.
