 print this
In response to an emergency appeal by the International Federation of the Red Cross, the Finnish Red Cross (SPR) has decided to support the victims of the Chile earthquake by sending a field hospital to the country today - Tuesday.
The field hospital will be staffed by local nurses, but two experts in medication and technology will leave Finland for the same destination.

The location of the field hospital will be Temuco, a Chilean city with 250,000 inhabitants. Most of the city’s hospitals were either destroyed or damaged during the massive magnitude 8.8 earthquake on February 27th.
In addition to a 50-bed hospital ward, the field hospital will have two operating theatres and an emergency clinic.

SPR is sending the field hospital to Chile in cooperation with the Norwegian Red Cross.

The earthquake which struck Central Chile at the end of February caused vast destruction in the country.
According to Chilean officials, nearly 500 people were killed. At the same time, the lives of some two million people were affected by the disaster.
