Finnish citizens in U.S. completely underwhelmed by thought of local elections back home
It probably comes as no surprise, considering that the hullabaloo around the American presidential election is now reaching its peak, that Finland's municipal election campaign is proving of little interest to the Finnish voters living in the United States.
According to the Consulate General of Finland in New York, only 216 votes were given in advance in the entire country. This translates to a 29% reduction in the already-modest voting activity compared with previous municipal elections.
The number of voters dropped in all three official voting territories, headed by the Consulate Generals in New York and Los Angeles, and at the Finnish Embassy in Washington DC.
From Minneapolis, which is at the heart of a traditional stronghold of Finnish immigrants, not one single vote was cast.
